The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Monday apprehended Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) Nanda Kishore Das of Jajpur Town Police Station red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a small betel shop owner.
The bribe was allegedly demanded by the ASI, who was the Investigating Officer of a land dispute case, to extend help to the complainant. Earlier, the ASI had demanded Rs 10,000, but later reduced it to Rs 5,000 after the complainant expressed an inability to pay the higher amount.
According to the Vigilance statement, the betel shop owner had approached the Orissa High Court for the demarcation of his land. Following court orders, the revenue authorities demarcated the plot in his favour. However, his neighbour allegedly demolished the newly constructed boundary wall
