An investigation is underway after a fatal weekend shooting in the parking lot of a Bessemer store.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 36-year-old Nicholas Kenneth Ratliff of Detroit.

The shooting happened at 7:50 p.m. Saturday outside Family Dollar in the 4300 block of Ninth Avenue North.

Ratliff was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:06 p.m.

Efforts to reach Bessemer police for additional information weren’t immediately successful.
