WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A teenager has been charged as an adult in the shooting death of a 19-year-old man at a Wichita park last year.
Sedgwick County court records show 17-year-old Victor Rivas-Banuelos is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and criminal use of weapons. The charges were filed last week, and Rivas-Banuelos' first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
A judge ruled last month that Rivas-Banuelos could be tried as an adult in the December 2024 shooting death of David Hernandez-Cervantez.
The shooting happened early on the morning of December 14, 2024 in the 2100 block of East Murdock, in Sim Park. Wichita police said officers found two men with gunshot wounds. Both went to a local hospital, where Hernandez-Cervantez
