The location for a new memorial commemorating the Heysel disaster at Anfield has been revealed. Earlier this year, coinciding with its 40th anniversary , Liverpool FC announced the club would install a new monument to replace the existing plaque on the wall of the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand.
The disaster occurred ahead of the European Cup final between Liverpool and Juventus in Block Z of the Heysel Stadium in Brussels, Belgium on May 29, 1985. 39 people – mostly Italians and Juventus fans – died, and hundreds more were injured in the tragedy.
