Martin Lewis has highlighted an important distinction that people with a UK bank card should know. The Money Saving Expert founder spoke about the crucial difference between recurring payments and direct debits on a recent episode of the Martin Lewis Podcast.

In the podcast episode Martin discussed the pros and cons of different regular payments you can arrange, as one type of payment offers far superior protection compared to others. The podcast episode aired on December 4 on BBC Radio 5.

As Money Saving Expert explains, there are two other main types of regular payment. direct debits and standing orders.

Both generally give greater control over what money comes out of your account but they are not the same thing.
