NEWPORT, Tenn. (WVLT) - Former Cocke County High School Assistant Football and Wrestling Coach Francisco Garcia has been charged with statutory rape, according to the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office. In a news release, the sheriff’s office said deputies arrested and charged him with six counts Monday.

CCSO said the case involved a 16-year-old victim, but did not identify them as they are a minor.

“Mr. Garcia was a former coach at Cocke County High School but no charges are related to any case involving the student during school hours or school functions,” the sheriff’s office said.

At this time, there’s no word on when Garcia left the school system or whether he was fired or resigned. WVLT has reached out to the school system for more information.
