STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A gas main rupture in Tottenville on Monday morning prompted a response from the FDNY and National Grid.

An FDNY spokesperson confirmed to the Advance/SILive.com it received a call at 9:50 a.m. for the rupture on Sprague Avenue, between Nancy Lane N and Sanford Street.

An Advance/SILive.com reporter at the scene noted a stretch of road was closed to traffic.

A spokesman for National Grid said a third-party contractor unaffiliated with the utility company caused the rupture.
