LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The Imperial Calcasieu Museum, known for holding some of Lake Charles’ most prized artifacts, will soon hold a special holiday event right under a piece of living history.
“Holiday Art Under the Oak”, the annual free open-air holiday market under the Sallier Oak, will be held on Dec. 14 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Creative Director of the museum, Ashley Royer, says that there is no better place to hold the festival.
“As we have the festival take place underneath this Sallier Oak here, and this grand cheniere is estimated to be the oldest in Lake Charles. She’s about 375 years old. She was split in half during the 1918 hurricane, and they saved her by chaining her back together,” Royer said.
