WEST FARGO — Many parents and educators know that kids can learn lifelong skills on the playground just as much as in a classroom. West Fargo Public Schools is taking that philosophy to heart when it comes to giving all students — including those with disabilities — a chance to learn and play independently on school playgrounds by adding inclusive playground equipment to its schools.

Inclusive playgrounds are generally built with accessible features, such as using rubber or engineered chips for a surface that is easier to maneuver. Inclusive playgrounds also often offer adaptable swings, sensory elements like tactile panels and musical instruments, and play structures like universal carousels and spinners that can be used by children of all abilities.
