MASON CITY, Iowa – Two men are pleading not guilty in connection with an October burglary that resulted in a shooting.
Michael Joseph Orozco, 35 of Mason City, is charged with second-degree burglary. Cody Dean Dakin, 30 of Mason City, is accused of possession of a firearm by a felon.
The Mason City Police Department says it responded to an incident around 3:55 am in the 300 block of 29 th Street SW on October 27. Investigators say Orozco illegally entered a property with the intent to commit an assault on someone inside and wound up with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Officers say Orozco drove himself to the hospital and a .22 caliber revolver was found at the scene.
Court documents state Dakin is a convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing a firearm
