Smoke alarms are being credited with alerting residents to an early morning house fire. It happened around 6:35 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, on John Street near Waukonda. Responding units from the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety arrived to find smoke coming from the attic and confirmed an active attic fire. Crews quickly brought the blaze under control.
