Waterloo city council voted Monday to increase costs for taxes and utilities by 6.9 per cent for a typical household in 2026. This will add $209 to household costs currently estimated at $3,033.

On average, property taxes will increase by $107, up 6.4 per cent on the city’s portion of tax bills. Utility bills will increase on average by $102, up 7.4 per cent for drinking water and drainage-related stormwater fees.

These estimates are for a typical home that pays a medium stormwater fee, uses 17 cubic metres of water per month and is assessed at $405,000 for tax purposes. Consumer inflation is running at 1.9 per cent this year.
