WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - Boeing is back in Wichita -- 20 years after the company sold off a division that became Spirit AeroSystems, Boeing announced it reacquired the Wichita-based manufacturer.
"Our world-class class skilled manufacturing workforce is ready to show them why we remain the 'Air Capital of the World,'" said Mayor Lily Wu.
The two companies announced the deal in July 2024, months after a door plug blew off a Boeing 737 MAX, thrusting both Boeing and Spirit into public and regulatory scrutiny.
After months of navigating regulatory approvals, Boeing announced its acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems on Monday morning.
"There's a lot of importance around what they produce and it affects our trade balance throughout the country," said Congressman Ron Estes.
