TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — U.S. Rep. Mark Veasey, who has represented Fort Worth in the House of Representatives since 2013, announced Monday he would be dropping his bid for reelection, instead announcing his candidacy for Tarrant County Judge.
Veasey, a Democrat, said in a written statement that Tarrant County is at a crossroads.
"I've seen firsthand how racially gerrymandered maps were designed to weaken the power of Black and Latino voters in North Texas — communities I have spent my entire career fighting for," Veasey wrote. "The people here deserve leadership grounded in truth, service and respect — not division, extremism and political stunts."
This announcement comes following the Republican redistricting of Texas, which has redrawn the district maps to favor Republican candidates
