MADISON, Wis. – Gov. Tony Evers signed Bradyn's Law on Monday, establishing a new crime of sexual extortion and expanding support for affected families. This law honors 15-year-old Bradyn Bohn who died by suicide after being targeted in a sextortion scheme.
Rock County District Attorney Jason Sanders said the bipartisan bill addresses a gap that made it difficult to prosecute cases involving online threats.
"Yesterday, the only thing we could do was like, comfort a teenager and try to coach them about being more careful using the internet. But you know, tomorrow, there are actual consequences," said Sanders.
The new law classifies coercing a minor to send sexual images as a felony. Sanders said this issue is increasingly common as teens spend more of their lives online.
