COLDWATER, Kan. (KAKE) - The mayor of Coldwater resigned from office Monday night, effective immediately.

The city of Coldwater announced the resignation of Mayor Joe Ceballos. This will take effect immediately.

"We will continue with the daily work of the city, ensuring that all services and operations move forward without interruption." President Britt Lenertz said, "Our priority is keeping the community informed and maintaining stability during this transition."

Ceballos became a statewide story as federal and state investigators looked closer into his citizenship status.

Last month, Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach said Ceballos, who was 54 at the time, would be prosecuted for three counts of voting without being qualified and three counts of election perjury. The Dep
