EVANSVILLE – Almost three months after officials hoped to have a deal finalized to lease Mesker Amphitheatre, negotiations with its lone suitor are allegedly still ongoing – and no one wants to talk about them.
Two calls to Evansville Parks and Recreation from the Courier & Press in recent weeks have gone unanswered, and an email to city officials last month received only a terse reply: "there is no update at this time."
City attorney Dirck Stahl, meanwhile, rejected a public records request in October to release the sole proposal officials fielded for Mesker, and then didn't respond to a follow-up message seeking clarification. And the person behind that proposal – Tim Drake, with The Mill amphitheater in Terre Haute – has stopped responding to messages from the Courier & Press.
