CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Several streetlights on busy Broadway Avenue in Cleveland’s Slavic Village neighborhood have been out leading to stretches of the street darker than normal.
City Councilmember Rebecca Maurer said it has been a problem for months in her ward.
“It is all related to thefts of thousands of feet of copper wire that have been stolen out from underneath the ground that connects all the streetlight poles,” Maurer said.
Cleveland Public Power said they have replaced 4,000 feet of stolen wire that powers lights on Broadway Avenue between East 55 th and East 71 st and beyond.
In the last six months, thieves have stolen wires along this area numerous times, according to CPP.
CPP said 70 poles were vandalized, so far crews have fixed 35 of them.
