A federal judge investigating if Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem should face a criminal contempt charge wants to hear from a whisteblower and a serving Justice Department attorney to "shed light on" whether a court order to turn around planes transfering migrants was willfully violated.
In a new order late Monday, Judge James Boasberg sought testimony from Erez Reuveni, a fired Justice Department attorney, and deputy assistant attorney General Drew Ensign, a member of the government's defense team in the case.
Reuveni has alleged a then-senior figure in the department, Emil Bove, had suggested the Trump administration might ignore court orders. The administration denies the claim.
