Polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday as City of Miami residents decided on their next mayor in a runoff election . The race is between two candidates offering different visions for the city's future — former County Commissioner Eileen Higgins and former Miami City Manager Emilio Gonzalez .
Higgins was leading with votes counted in 137 of the city's 139 precincts so far. Results are being posted by the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections here .
The crowded 13-person field had been narrowed down to Higgins and Gonzalez when voters went to the polls on Nov. 4, with Higgins leading at 36% and Gonzalez taking 19% of the vote, according to the Miami-Dade County supervisor of elections. Because no candidate secured more than 50% of the vote, the contest advanced to Tuesday's runoff.
