Flying soon ? Well, if you're part of the 6% of airline passengers in the United States that don't have a REAL ID , you'll soon have to pay a fee for not having one or risk not flying at all.
The Transportation Security Administration recently announced that starting Feb. 1, all airline passengers in the U.S. will have to pay for not having a REAL ID-compliant driver's license. TSA officials said the fee covers the administrative costs of verifying the identities of travelers who do not have a REAL ID or an accepted alternative.
Here's what to know.
What is a REAL ID?
REAL ID is a new federal requirement for state-issued driver's licenses and non-driver IDs to prevent fraudulent identification. Congress passed the law in 2005 following recommendations from the 9/11 Commission. N
