PORT ST. LUCIE, FL – A 6-year-old girl died after a go-karting accident at a Florida adventure park, officials said.
The incident happened Dec. 6 when the girl, who was with an adult, was in an electric go-kart and was struck by another go-kart at the Urban Air adventure park in Port St. Lucie, a city of about 205,000 residents on Florida's eastern coast, according to Port St. Lucie Police spokesperson Brittany Holly.
Police responded just before 9 p.m. on Dec. 6 for a medical incident. The girl, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a hospital and died the next day, Holly said.
Holly said nothing at this time indicates the incident is anything other than an accident.
Urban Air is an indoor trampoline and "adventure park" with locations all across the country. The Port St. Lucie location includes go karts, bumper cars, laser tag, virtual reality, a ropes course and zipline, climbing wall, trampolines and other features, according to its website.
The business didn't immediately return a voicemail from Treasure Coast Newspapers, part of the USA TODAY Network, and an email on Dec. 9.
Police said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and have notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
