MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Yahir Mejia, 22 , accused of fatally shooting Erik Sandoval inside Wolfchase Galleria in mid-November , is due back in court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing, police said.

Mejia is charged with second-degree murder in Sandoval’s death. Police said the shooting stemmed from an altercation, but Mejia has claimed he acted in self-defense .

Investigators reviewed surveillance video and said it “does not support Mejia’s claim of self-defense,” police added.

Brandon Hall, Mejia’s attorney, said the case will take time to resolve and that he has not seen all of the video evidence. “This case is obviously going to take some time to play out. There’s a lot of video evidence that I haven’t even seen yet,” Hall said.
