MENTOR-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio (WOIO) - A woman fleeing from police jumped into Lake Erie Tuesday morning and a Mentor-on-the-Lake officer followed her in the frigid water and pulled her to safety.
A second Mentor-on-the-Lake officer was injured after slipping on icy rocks trying to rescue her.
The woman, whose name is not being released, is being treated at a local hospital.
Mentor-on-the-Lake Police Chief John Forsythe said the officers are also recovering well.
According to Chief Forsythe, officers received two calls Tuesday morning about a woman knocking on resident’s doors and trying to open one of them.
When officers found the woman sitting in her car, she fled the scene, and drove to a park at the north end of the city.
