Tyrone “Fly Ty” Williams, founder of Cold Chillin’ Records, has passed away at 64. News of Williams’ death first surfaced on Monday (Dec. 8), with multiple outlets reporting on his passing, and collaborators and friends paying tribute to his life and legacy.

A native New Yorker, Williams’ career began in radio before evolving into a talent scout and manager during the mid ’80s. His transition into a power player in the Hip-Hop industry came full bloom with the launch of Cold Chillin’ Records in 1987, a label that produced legendary artists Big Daddy Kane , Roxanne Shante , Biz Markie, and Kool G Rap .
