In a major security upgrade, India is set to deploy its own homegrown Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) to safeguard the Delhi National Capital Region from missiles, drones and fast-moving hostile aircraft, senior defence sources told ANI.
The new multilayered shield will centre around indigenous missile systems, including the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM), Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADS), and other integrated surveillance and command-and-control components. These systems will work together to protect critical installations across the NCR.
According to sources, the move gained urgency after Pakistan reportedly attempted to target Indian territory during Operation Sindoor in May this year.
