Indianapolis City-County Council President Vop Osili announced that he will not seek re-election as president when his term ends, concluding eight years in the role. He will continue serving as a councilor.

Osili said the decision followed “deep reflection” and will allow him to focus his energy where it is most needed. He thanked council colleagues, staff, legal and policy teams, and community partners for helping “turn ideas into action.”

First elected president in 2017, Osili led the Council through the COVID-19 pandemic and other major challenges, gaining a reputation for collaborative leadership across city, state, neighborhood, and nonprofit sectors.

“Serving as Council President has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Osili said in a press release.
