PORTAGE, MI — Updates at Lakeview Park earned Portage the American Public Works Association “Project of the Year” award.
The APWA’s Southwest Michigan branch is part of a national organization promoting leadership, innovation and excellence in public works, per a city press release.
The $1.87 million renovation project was completed in October, per a city press release.
Improvements to the park — which abuts Austin Lake and has a view of West Lake — include a 810-foot canal boardwalk, expanded fishing piers with shade canopies, and a game pocket with seating, pingpong and chess tables overlooking the water.
The city also added a bike rental system with repair station, as well as an inspiration garden pergola with trails, lighting and landscaping to the 26-acre park.
