ROCKFORD, Ill. — The local city government is preparing for possible winter weather effects tonight .
The City of Rockford announced that the Public Works Department started salting high-capacity roads at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, in anticipation of ice and freezing rain predicted for Tuesday night.
The City said decisions about further salting will be made as needed according to developing weather conditions.
The City also asked residents to follow at a safe distance behind snowplows to prevent salt from hitting your vehicle.
