NEW YORK - Zohran Mamdani, the new mayor-elect of New York City , says he and his wife, Rama Duwaji, will move into Gracie Mansion when he officially takes office on Jan. 1.
Mamdani and Duwaji currently live in a small rent-stabilized apartment in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens. He said the decision to leave that home came down to their family’s safety - and his desire to fully focus on the “affordability agenda” he promised during his campaign.
Gracie Mansion, an 18th-century house on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, has served as the official residence of New York’s mayor for decades. The house sits in Carl Schurz Park near East 88th Street and the East River.
While many previous mayors have lived there , one recent exception was Michael Bloomberg, who chose to stay in his own
