SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — One of two teens charged with shooting a 16-year-old to death in 2024 will spend the next 30 years in prison.
Dremone Patterson, 17, pleaded guilty to first degree murder and unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle on Nov. 24.
Court records show Patterson will serve a three-year sentence for the unlawful possession charge concurrently with his 30-year sentence for murder. Other charges against him, including possession of a stolen firearm, were dismissed.
Springfield police were called to the 2300 block of Taylor Avenue, just south of Southeast High School, at 8:42 a.m. on April 24. Officers found the victim, later identified as Keyon Day, with a gunshot wound to the lower torso.
Day was rushed into surgery at a local hospital and later died, police said.
