ASHEVILLE - In 2021, the intersection of Charlotte Street and Chestnut Street seemed primed for redevelopment, with proposals that included commercial spaces, townhomes and affordable apartments. But heading into 2026 one developer is backing off, citing rising costs.
City of Asheville's Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the rezoning of a property in the Chestnut Hills neighborhood during its Dec. 3 meeting, motioning the end of a small project that would've redeveloped a lot adjacent to Taco Temple and the former Fuddruckers, a property that is also subject to redevelopment.
