Turtles trapped in bays around New England after being “stunned” due to plummeting temperatures are getting some assistance from experts at Mystic Aquarium.
There are currently 15 stunned turtles in their care before they can be safely released in some warmer water.

“These turtles are all cold-stunned, which is essentially a hypothermic state they go into,” said Sarah Callan, manager of the Animal Rescue Team at Mystic Aquarium.
The four species of turtles that call our coastal waters home head into the bays like Long Island Sound or around the region during the warm summer months to feed. But they can get stuck and freeze when the water temperatures drop -- especially if it happens quickly.
