COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Police are asking for the public’s help to identify and locate the driver of a dark-colored sedan accused of hitting a child pedestrian and leaving the scene on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Columbia Police Department, the incident happened shortly after 4:45 p.m. in the 5200 block of Fairfield Road. Officers with the Traffic Safety Unit say the 12-year-old child was attempting to cross the street when he was struck by the vehicle.
The child was transported to the hospital with what police describe as non-life-threatening injuries.
Richland School District One confirmed to News19 that the child who was hit was a student at Alcorn Middle School, which is in that area. The incident happened after school has been dismissed for the day, however.
