COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A jury and three alternates — nine men and six women in all — have begun hearing the case against Justin Reeves, who prosecutors say shot and killed 46-year-old Kendrick Young on July 3, 2020, in a park near the Columbus Water Works facility on Third Avenue.

Prosecutors say Reeves, 36, who is legally barred from possessing a firearm, followed Young to the park and shot him with a .380. In his opening statement, lead prosecutor Ben Ranieri said the shooting stemmed from an argument between the two men about a month earlier.

“The evidence is going to show that that man over there, Justin Reeves, walked up to Kendrick Young at the Water Works on Third Avenue and he executed him with a .380,” Ranieri told the jury.
