LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Jefferson County Public Schools board met Tuesday night to vote on pausing the superintendent’s plan to close and consolidate some schools. District leaders said the proposal would save $4 million as they work to address a $188 million budget deficit.
Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) leaders had proposed closing Zachary Taylor Elementary and Liberty High schools. As part of the proposal, King and Maupin Elementary Schools would have merged.
Vyctoria Amsler has two children at Zachary Taylor Elementary School. One of them takes advantage of the resources available for students with moderate to severe disabilities.
“This is like a family,” she expressed. “It’s a really small school. Everyone knows my kids. Everyone knows me.”
