A Massachusetts woman died in a car crash with a stopped tractor-trailer on I-95 in Maine Monday afternoon, according to Maine State Police.
Needham, resident Janice Goldsmith was driving a 2014 Toyota sedan south on the Maine Turnpike in York when her car struck the back of a tractor-trailer that had stopped in the breakdown lane, Maine State Police said in a Tuesday press release.
State troopers responded to the crash shortly before 3:15 p.m., State Police said. First responders declared Goldsmith dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation into the crash indicates that the tractor-trailer had stopped as a result of a mechanical malfunction, State Police said. The tractor-trailer driver placed reflective warning triangles around the truck as required by law prior to the crash.
