Small business owners said adopting one business tax cut and sweetening how much they would get to deduct expenses from another levy would make New Hampshire an even more attractive place to locate and grow a company.

The discussion came at an Americans for Prosperity-sponsored forum Tuesday at Murphy’s Taproom and Carriage House in Bedford.

House Assistant Majority Leader Brian Labrie, R-Bedford, owns two companies — Drop One Portables and B.H. Labrie Landscape Construction, Inc.

He said the state’s 7.5% Business Profits Tax (BPT) hits business owners when they make money, while the state’s 0.55% Business Enterprise Tax (BET) is a payroll levy that can be costly when firms like his this year added staff to try to grow the bottom line.
