SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - The Shelbyville City Council unanimously voted earlier this month to bring in a second ambulance provider.
Shelby County Emergency Management posted on Facebook Tuesday that the Shelbyville City Council unanimously voted Dec. 1 to grant a license to Echo Response EMS to work within the city, along with nearby communities Cowden and Herrick.
Echo was chosen due to how it handled a dual-provider model in Jacksonville with LifeStar Ambulance Service.
The decision to bring them on was made to address coverage gaps and cut down on response times without "increasing the tax burden" on the community, per Shelby County EMS.
