Cambodia and Thailand are engaged in renewed fighting, forcing tens of thousands to flee border areas.

Thousands have been evacuated, with temporary shelters set up in both countries.

An evacuation shelter at a university in Thailand's northeastern city of Surin hosted more than 3,600 people who were relocated from the danger zones.

They sat or laid on thin mats and several set up small tents.

At lunchtime, some lined up to receive cooked rice, while others were served ready-to-eat meals.

The conflict reignited Sunday after a skirmish injured two Thai soldiers, breaking a ceasefire from July.

On Tuesday, Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen vowed to fight back, while Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul supported military operations.

Both sides blame each other for initiating attacks.

The fighting has killed several civilians and soldiers.

Historical tensions and territorial disputes, including over ancient temples, continue to fuel the conflict.
