Over the past year, a growing number of our nation’s children — including 14-year-old Sewell Setzer, 16-year-old Adam Raine, 13-year-old Juliana Peralta — have tragically died by suicide because of encouragement from AI chatbots.
While these tragedies happened in California and Florida, it’s only a matter of time before something similar happens somewhere else. Our kids are interacting with these systems every day, and we’re going to keep seeing cases like this unless we take it seriously. It’s critical that our community understands these risks and starts thinking now about how we’re going to navigate them.
