At the end of his fifth season in Happy Valley, Danny O’Brien is on the move.
The Penn State quarterbacks coach is off to Virginia Tech, following former Lions head coach James Franklin. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the news Tuesday night .
Penn State tight ends coach Ty Howle is also among those following Franklin with the Hokies. He will become the offensive coordinator in a move reported earlier Tuesday.
O’Brien’s connection with Franklin is long-standing. He played for the latter at Maryland in college and started as an offensive analyst with Penn State in 2021.
O’Brien became the de facto quarterbacks coach for the Nittany Lions while he was a graduate assistant in 2023, following the firing of then-offensive coordinator/QBs coach Mike Yurcich. He earned the full-time role in
