Elijah Welsh took the floor at the Eagle Dome in Cumberland Valley’s home opener and instantly got to work.
The senior guard scored 20 points to lead the Eagles to a 61-41 win over Carlisle in the Mid-Penn Conference Commonwealth division opener Tuesday at Mechanicsburg.
Welsh did most of his damage in a 12-point third quarter. He made six shots from the floor, including one 3-pointer, and made five out of six shots from the stripe.
Aiden Diehl scored 11 points to help pace the Eagles (1-2), who earned their first win of the season in the victory. Kallen Duppstadt also added on 9 points.
Isaiah Ream led the Thundering Herd (1-2) with 9 points. Cayson Johnson added on 8 points while Isaiah Robinson and Paxton Foreman chipped in 6 apiece.
