PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Porch pirates are using inexpensive electronic gadgets to jam the Wi-Fi connection to a home’s security camera.
“I’d say stealing packages is fairly low tech, but this is kind of an example of criminals getting savvy and using technology to further their goals in some way,” said Brian Westnedge, the VP of Alliances & Partnerships at Red Sift .
The federally illegal tactic has been reported in other states, including Texas and Colorado.
Westnedge said the tech could either disrupt the video recording completely or corrupt portions of it. He said homeowners can upgrade their security to counter the threat.
