The tactics of a senior salesman at an Ipswich loft insulation company would leave elderly people in tears, a court was told as he was spared jail.

Riba Surveyors Ltd would routinely “cold call” and “doorstep” elderly people, Ipswich Crown Court was told, recommending work at inflated prices which would sometimes negatively affect their property’s value.

The company - which later changed its name to Riva Surveyors Ltd after receiving a cease and desist letter from the Royal Institute of British Architects – admitted 21 counts of engaging in a commercial practice which was a misleading action contrary to regulations 5 and 9 of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulation 2008.
