There are mounting calls to postpone controversial roadworks as part of the implementation of an active travel scheme in a town.

Tim Regester and Jessie Carter, ward members for Sudbury North West on Babergh District Council, have written to Suffolk County Council urging it to explore other areas in Sudbury to improve cycling and walking routes.

Suffolk County Council is scheduled to commence its project in Melford Road next month, with roadworks set to be carried out in three phases before the new road layout is unveiled in mid-March.

But a spokesman for the county council said it "acknowledges the issues raised by local members and we will discuss these with them ahead of work."
