Samuel Douglass’ seat in the Vermont Senate — which the Orleans County Republican vacated in October after a news article reported he had participated in a racist group chat — has a new occupant.
Gov. Phil Scott on Dec. 5 appointed former state Rep. John Morley, a Republican who lives in the village of Orleans, to fill the Orleans District seat, effective immediately. Morley, who served six years in the House from 2004 to 2010, will finish out Douglass’ term, which ends in January 2027.
