Nagaon: A heartbreaking accident at the Haibargaon-Mullapatty railway crossing on Wednesday morning claimed the life of a woman and left her niece, a law student, battling severe injuries. The incident took place around 9:30 AM at the crowded fragrance crossing, a spot commuters have long described as unsafe.

The victims were travelling on a scooty bearing registration number AS02E-3439. They were identified as Mridula Saikia of Kachua Raja Gaon and her niece, Pranjana Saikia, an LLB student. According to eyewitnesses, the two slipped while crossing the uneven and misaligned railway track.
