Barpeta: A solemn Swahid Pranamu Tumak programme was organised in Barpeta by the Assam Accord Implementation Department with support from the Barpeta District Administration. Nearly 10,000 people joined in performing the timeless and patriotic song “Swahid Pranamu Tumak” by Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

The event at Ram Rai Stadium was held parallel to the state-level Swahid Diwas celebration at the newly built Swahid Smarak Kshetra in West Boragaon, Guwahati. The programme honoured the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs of the historic Assam Movement.

Assam Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma paid tribute to the martyrs, the families of victims and the Sattradhikars present. He said Swahid Diwas is a day of pride for the people of Assam.
