The Singham phenomenon that later roared through Bollywood began in Tamil Nadu, powered first by Suriya before Ajay Devgn donned the khaki. Down South, actor Vijay too has played his share of righteous law enforcers, helping cement the archetype of the cop who refuses to bend.

On Tuesday, December 9, that reel-to-real blur unfolded in Puducherry. This time, the fearless police officer was on duty. And the irony? Vijay, who so often plays that role, was at the receiving end.

At a major rally under the banner of his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) – staged at Uppalam Port Ground and attended by far more than the permitted 5,000 – a very real Singham stood her ground.
